“From September 28 to October 5, 1986, an exhibition divining the many possibilities of the future of contemporary Chinese art was organized by the Xiamen City Mass Art Museum (Xiamen shi qunzhong yishuguan) and Xiamen Modern Art Research Office (Xiamen xiandai meishu yanjiushi). As it opened to the general public at the Xiamen New Arts Center (Xin yishuguan), the exhibition instantly diverged from the Five Artists Exhibition of May 1983, which, being restricted to authorized visitors, had been more reminiscent of a wake.”
